FAHIMA SEBIANE, FIRST WOMAN TO HEAD AN ALGERIAN SPORTS FEDERATION

10 APRIL 2021

I Fahima Sebiane was elected head of the Algerian Equestrian Federation during the elective general assembly of this body, held on Sunday in Algiers. She is now the first woman in the history of Algerian sport. She succeeds the outgoing president, M’Hamed Zoubir Metidji, as head of the FEA.

Fahima Sebiane was the only candidate for the post, since her file was the only one to have received the approval of the candidacy commission. She succeeded in passing the hurdle of the elective general assembly of the Algerian Equestrian Federation (FEA) on Sunday. She was elected with 24 votes for and 19 against. A result that propels Fahima Sebiane, member of the outgoing board, to the head of the Algerian Equestrian Federation, making her the first woman to preside over a sports federation in the history of Algeria.

The new strong woman of the Algerian Federation of Equestrian Sports is not a novice in the discipline, she was first a high-level athlete before joining the board of the federation. Highly appreciated within the equestrian sports family, Fahima Sebiane was able to take up the challenge of first presenting her candidacy and then having the honour of postponing the elections and thus presiding over the Algerian Equestrian Sports Federation for the next 4 years.

Fahima Sebiane has already worked at the international level in equestrian sports. Indeed, the new strong woman of the FEA had the honour to occupy the position of vice-president of the African Confederation of Equestrian Sports.

During the constitutive assembly of this body, held in March 2016, in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, Fahima Sebiane took the position of vice-president, behind the Egyptian Hicham Hatab, the only candidate for the presidency of the African Confederation of Equestrian Sports (CASE).
